Paclobutrazol remediation in recirculated water of container-grown ornamentals

subirrigationPlant growth regulators, such as paclobutrazol, are commonly used in the ornamental greenhouse industry to regulate plant growth. Previous research indicates that drench and spray applications of paclobutrazol can leach through the substrate for prolong periods of time and be spread through the sub-irrigation system.

The objectives of this project are to (1) measure paclobutrazol levels in recirculated water in commercial greenhouses dedicated to ornamental plant production, and (2) identify remediation strategies to break down or remove paclobutrazol from irrigation water.

This project is carried out in collaboration with the University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT), the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL) andĀ  USDA-ARS (Wooster, OH).

This project is co-sponsored by theĀ The Fred G. Gloeckner Foundation, the Floriculture Research Alliance and USDA-ARS.
